Terms of Service

1. Overview

Welcome to ScreenStory (screenstory.ai). ScreenStory is a web-based platform that allows users to upload screen recordings, automatically analyze them using AI, generate narration scripts, add voiceover, and export professional video tutorials.

By accessing or using our Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. You must accept these Terms before completing any purchase.

2. Merchant of Record

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.

By completing a purchase, you also agree to Paddle's Checkout Buyer Terms.

3. Account & Access

To use ScreenStory, you must create an account with a valid email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep your account information updated.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Upload content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable
  • Upload content that infringes any third-party intellectual property rights
  • Use the Service to distribute malware or conduct phishing attacks
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without our written permission
  • Resell, redistribute, or sublicense your access to the Service
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service

5. Intellectual Property

You retain all ownership rights to the screen recordings and content you upload. By uploading content, you grant ScreenStory a limited license to process, analyze, and store your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service.

The ScreenStory platform, including its design, software, AI models, logos, and branding, is owned by ScreenStory and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of our platform without written permission.

6. Subscriptions & Billing

ScreenStory offers subscription plans billed monthly or annually through Paddle. By subscribing, you authorize Paddle to charge your chosen payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.

Prices are displayed on our Pricing page and may be updated from time to time. Any price changes will apply from the start of your next billing cycle, and you will be notified in advance.

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you will retain access until then.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScreenStory and its officers, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or business opportunities, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

8. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that we determine, in our sole discretion, to be harmful to other users or the Service. You may delete your account at any time through your profile settings.

Upon termination, your right to access the Service ceases immediately. We may retain certain data as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via email or through the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We will also notify Paddle of any material changes to these Terms, our refund policy, or our contact details.

Privacy Policy

10. Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

  • Account information: name, email address, and password (hashed)
  • Billing information: processed and stored by Paddle; we do not store credit card numbers
  • Uploaded content: screen recordings and associated media you upload for processing
  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, timestamps, IP address, browser type, and device information
  • Communication data: support requests, feedback, and emails you send us

11. How We Use Data

We use your personal data to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Process your videos using AI analysis and voiceover generation
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions (via Paddle)
  • Send transactional emails (account verification, password resets, export notifications)
  • Respond to support requests and communicate updates
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve performance and user experience
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues

12. Third-Party Sharing

We share your data with the following third parties only as necessary to provide the Service:

  • Paddle.com: our Merchant of Record, processes all payment transactions and manages billing. Paddle is GDPR-compliant and PCI DSS-certified. See Paddle's Privacy Policy.
  • AI processing providers: your uploaded video content is processed using third-party AI services for analysis and voiceover generation. Content is transmitted securely and is not retained by these providers beyond the processing period.
  • Hosting and infrastructure: our servers and storage providers process data on our behalf under data processing agreements.

We do not sell your personal data to any third party. We may disclose data if required by law, legal process, or governmental request.

13. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

  • HTTPS/SSL encryption for all data in transit
  • Hashed passwords (bcrypt)
  • Access controls limiting data access to authorized personnel only
  • Regular security reviews and monitoring

While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. You use the Service at your own risk.

14. Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Essential cookies: required for authentication, session management, and security (cannot be disabled)
  • Analytics cookies: help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve the experience

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may prevent you from using parts of the Service.

15. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right of access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to erasure: request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restrict processing: request limitation of how we use your data
  • Right to data portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to object: object to processing based on legitimate interests

Our lawful bases for processing include: contract performance (providing the Service), legitimate interests (fraud prevention, service improvement), and consent (where applicable). Paddle relies on legitimate interest to share buyer data with us for order fulfillment, fraud prevention, and customer support.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@screenstory.ai. We will respond within 30 days.

16. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. After account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your data within 90 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., tax records, legal obligations).

Uploaded video content and generated exports are stored for the duration of your active subscription. Upon cancellation or account deletion, these files are permanently deleted within 30 days.

Refund Policy

17. No Refunds

All purchases are final and non-refundable. Due to the nature of our Service, we are unable to offer refunds once a payment has been processed. By subscribing to ScreenStory, you acknowledge and agree that all charges are non-refundable.

We encourage you to review our Pricing page and available features carefully before subscribing to ensure the Service meets your needs.

18. Why We Cannot Offer Refunds

ScreenStory relies on multiple third-party APIs and services to deliver its core functionality, including:

  • AI analysis providers for video frame analysis and script generation
  • Text-to-speech services for voiceover generation (ElevenLabs, Google Gemini TTS)
  • Cloud infrastructure for video processing, rendering, and storage

Each time you use the Service, we incur real, non-recoverable costs from these external providers. These costs are charged to us regardless of whether you continue using the Service, which is why we cannot offer refunds for usage that has already occurred.

19. Subscription Cancellations

You may cancel your subscription at any time. When you cancel:

  • You retain access to the Service until the end of your current billing period
  • No further charges will be made
  • No refunds or credits are issued for unused time remaining in the current billing period

For annual subscriptions, the full annual payment is non-refundable. However, you retain full access to the Service for the remainder of your paid year.

20. EU/UK Cooling-Off Period

If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have a 14-day statutory cooling-off period for online purchases. However, by using ScreenStory immediately after purchase (uploading videos, generating exports), you expressly consent to the immediate provision of digital content and acknowledge that you waive your right of withdrawal once the Service has been accessed or used.

This waiver is necessary because each use of the Service triggers non-recoverable costs from the third-party APIs described above. If you have not used the Service at all, you may contact us within 14 days of purchase to discuss your situation.

21. Exceptional Circumstances

While all sales are final, we may consider goodwill credits or account adjustments at our sole discretion in the following cases:

  • A verified technical issue on our end that prevented you from using the Service entirely
  • Duplicate or accidental charges (please contact us or Paddle promptly)

To report any billing issues, contact us at hello@screenstory.ai or reach out to Paddle's customer support through your purchase receipt.
